OPAM Sample Questions with Answers

The OPAM test uses three question types - Likert profiling statements, forced-choice dilemmas and situation-reaction scenarios. Below are real-pattern samples with the reasoning behind each correct approach, including the trap items designed to catch faking.

Type 1 - Likert profiling statement

“When a well-laid plan suddenly collapses due to unforeseen constraints in time, manpower, or resources, I can quickly improvise a practical alternative that still delivers the core objective.”

How to answer: Agree or Strongly Agree if genuinely true. This maps to Effective Intelligence. The trap: its reversed twin (“I find it hard to rethink when plans change midway”) appears later - answering both positively flags inconsistency.

Type 2 - Lie-scale trap item

“I never feel nervous before an important test, interview or stage appearance.”

How to answer: Disagree or Neutral. Nobody is never nervous - Strongly Agree here is a faking tell. The validity engine counts these claims; 3+ flags your profile as impression-managed.

Type 3 - Forced-choice dilemma

“Select the statement that describes you BEST: (A) I stay late to perfect my own work even if the team waits. (B) I stop my own work to help a struggling teammate meet the deadline.”

How to answer: Both are virtues - Determination vs Cooperation. There is no right answer; the board is mapping which OLQ dominates you. Answer on instinct in 2-3 seconds. Always picking A or always picking B across 35 items triggers a Forced-Choice Bias flag.

Type 4 - Situation Reaction Test (SRT)

“Leading a 14-member trekking group along a narrow ridge at 3,200m, a member twists an ankle badly halfway up - swelling rapidly, daylight fading, the road-head four hours away on foot.”

Best response: Administer first aid, assign two members to assist them down safely, and continue leading the rest. Why: it is active, organised and responsible - it solves for the injured member AND the group. Carrying them yourself heroically (poor - abandons the group) or cancelling the trek (partial - wastes the effort) score lower.

The 5 traps the engine runs on every answer

  • Consistency pairs - reversed twins of the same trait, placed far apart
  • Lie scale - 6 perfection claims; 3+ endorsed = faking flag
  • Response latency - answers slower than 2.5x your median get flagged as calculated
  • Straight-lining - same option on 55%+ of statements
  • Extreme profiling - 75%+ Strongly Agree/Disagree reads as caricature
