Take OPAM — 120 OLQ statements — Stage-1 screening

The New SSB Stage-1 Screening Process, Step by Step

Stage-1 screening has gone fully computerised. The old OIR paper and picture-perception discussion have given way to two digital tools - the CSSS cognitive battery and the OPAM personality assessment. Here is exactly how the day runs and what gets you screened in.

1

Reporting & document check

Candidates report at the SSB centre, documents are verified and boarding is allotted. No testing on reporting day for most entries - screening begins next morning.
2

The CSSS Cognitive Battery (~25 min)

70 questions across 5 sections - working memory, spatial perception, reasoning, verbal ability and auditory discrimination. Every question carries its own strict timer (10-30s), the flow is one-way, and headphones are needed for the audio section. This replaces the old OIR paper. Practise the full battery free.
3

The OPAM Personality Assessment (~20-30 min)

120 objective questions in three parts - Likert profiling statements, forced-choice dilemmas and situation reactions. Unlike CSSS there is no hard per-question timer, but the engine measures your answer latency in milliseconds: hesitation reads as calculation. Take the OPAM mock free.
4

Screening discussion & results

Where the pattern retains a screening discussion, performance combines with your CSSS-OPAM results. Results are announced the same day: screened-in candidates stay 4-5 more days for Stage-2 (psychology, GTO, interview, conference); the rest are screened out.

What gets you screened in

Rehearse the whole day

Sit both mocks back-to-back under real timers - that is the closest rehearsal of screening you can get outside the centre.
